The POLYGRAPH is based on sensors. Blood pressure: The blood pressure and pulse rate are affected by forces beyong the conscious control of the person being tested. The pulse rate and blood pressure sensors put their information onto a sheet of paper. Galvanic Skin Response, (GSR) A natural product of lying is to perspire. The G.S.R. is an electric circuit, which measures the amount of liquid present on the palm of the hand. RESPIRATION RATE AND AUTONOMIC PHYSIOLOGICAL REACTIONS OF THE BODY Respiration: A sending unit placed on the chest measures the rate of respiration of the subject. Internnal Reactions: A sending unit placed on the thorax of the subject measures muscular flexion on the polygraph tape. The reader: All of the sensors collect data and send them to the polygraph unit. Capacity: The polygraph measures reactions, which are not under the conscious control of the subject.
